June 11, 2021 - 5:13 a.m. SMFR's 9-1-1 Dispatch Center received a call for a fire that was in the backyard of a residence near Lincoln Ave and Lone Tree Parkway. When District Chief 1 arrived on scene, he confirmed that it was a working structure fire viewing fire both on the primary home and extending into a secondary home.

June 7, 2021 – Just before noon, on Monday, Local members responded to reports of smoke showing in the area of South Platte Canyon Road and West Mineral Avenue. BC1 confirmed seeing the smoke plume and upgraded the response to a confirmed structure fire.

Local 21 regrets to announce the passing of retired Fire Captain Rudolph G. “Rudy” Thell. Captain Rudy Thell started with the Saint Paul Fire Department on January 1, 1954 and retired in 1991. Rudy became a Paramedic in the mid 1970s and was assigned as Fire Captain of Engine 24 on the C Shift for a large part of his career.

Local 21 regrets to announce the passing of retired Fire Equipment Operator John Kowalski. FEO John “Jake” Kowalski started with the Saint Paul Fire Department on April 16, 1963 and retired in the early 1990’s.  John spent most of his career assigned to Engine Company 01 on the A Shift as FEO. John also served as IAFF Local 21 Treasurer in the 1980’s.

At 8:58 a.m. on Saturday May 22, 2021, a 911 caller reported brown smoke coming from the front door of a home under construction at 6092 S. Aberdeen St. in Littleton. When Local members arrived, light smoke was visible, and Firefighters advanced a hose line inside to search for the fire and possible victims.

On November 27th, 2020, Dave Novotny passed away from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a Line of Duty Illness. The memorial for Dave will be held at 3:30 pm on Saturday, May 22nd, 2021, at the Colorado Professional Fire Fighters Event Center, 12 Lakeside Lane, Denver, Colorado 80212. Seating will begin at 3:00 pm. Attire will be Class A uniform with shrouded badges for the day of the memorial.

Thursday, May 20th, 2021 Today, Local 2687 members had the distinct honor of providing a cover engine for the City of New Haven, as they laid to rest one of their own.  Firefighter Ricardo Torres died in the line of duty on May 12th, 2021 while battling a structure fire. May 17, 2021 - Shortly after 8 p.m., Local members were dispatched to a residence to investigate an unknown substance near Kent Place and Shoreham Circle in Castle Pines. The homeowner received a package and did not recognize its contents. The residence was evacuated and Haz-Mat38 and Decon17 were called along with first due units.
